A sign almost always needs a SIGN PERMIT from the local planning or zoning authority in addition to the electrical permit, and the two are issued by different departments on different criteria. A correctly licensed electrician can still be stopped for want of the zoning approval. AND THE STRUCTURAL SIDE. Pole signs, projecting signs and large wall signs frequently require a structural or building permit for the attachment, which is separate again from both. |
