Delaware electrician licensing at a glance

RequirementsJourneyperson/Master Limited: ~3 years practical experience (or 2 years schooling + 1 year) and written exam. Master (general): ~6 years experience (or 4 years schooling + 2 years). Special/Limited designations restrict scope (e.g., elevators, HVAC).
ReciprocityYes, as an objective substantial-similarity test with no named states. Under 24 Del. Admin. Code 1400 §11.0 (Board of Electrical Examiners), an applicant for licensure by reciprocity must complete a board-approved application and, as required by 24 Del. C. §1409(a), present proof of current licensure in good standing from the licensing agencies of all jurisdictions where the applicant is or has been licensed; a license is not current if it is inactive, lapsed, expired, suspended or revoked. The applicant must submit a copy of the reciprocal state's current licensure requirements. Under §11.2, if those requirements are not substantially similar to Delaware's as determined by the Board, the applicant must instead submit proof of practice under that license for at least 5 years after licensure. §11.3 deems a state's master electrician requirements substantially similar if that state requires at minimum 6 years full-time experience under the supervision of a licensed master, passing the NEC exam recognised by the Board, proof of 5 hours of continuing education based on the NEC, and inspection of electrical work by qualified inspectors. §11.4 deems a state's journeyperson requirements substantially similar if that state requires at minimum 4 years full-time experience under the supervision of a licensed master electrician, passing a licensing test administered by a Board-recognised testing entity, and proof of 5 hours of continuing education based on the NEC.
