| Renewal | All licenses renew annually and must be renewed within 30 days after the expiration date; licenses expired beyond 30 days become inactive. Continuing education: Arkansas publishes none for the plumber license itself. The Department of Health's current rule, 'Rules Pertaining to Master, Journeyman, and Restricted Plumber Licenses, Plumbing and Gas Inspector Licenses, Restricted Hospital Maintenance, Water and Sewer Service Line Installation' (effective September 5, 2024, under Ark. Code Ann. § 17-38-101 et seq.), governs Master, Journeyman and Apprentice plumber renewal at Section IV(a) and specifies only an annual December 31 expiration, renewal by February 1, a $5 per month late penalty and a 30-day grace window, no continuing education hours or topics appear anywhere in that renewal section. The same rule does impose continuing education on two narrower credentials issued by the same Plumbing and Natural Gas Section: a Plumbing/Gas Inspector Certificate renewal must be accompanied by proof of eight (8) hours of refresher training issued by the Department, and the Arkansas Backflow Preventer Assembly Tester Competency License requires an initial 40-hour Department-accredited classroom and wet-lab course followed by an examination, then re-certification every 24 months (and no later than 36 months from the last certification) through a Department-approved re-certification training course whose hour count the rule does not state. The rule's uniformed-service-member clause corroborates the absence: it exempts service members only from continuing education or recertification requirements for backflow testing and repair technicians and for plumbing and gas inspectors, and does not name Master, Journeyman, Apprentice or Restricted Plumbers, because those licenses carry no continuing education requirement to be exempted from. |
