| Requirements | MARYLAND LICENSES PLUMBING AND GAS FITTING AS ONE COMBINED CREDENTIAL, the license is a plumber/gas fitter license, not two separate cards, and the ladder is precisely specified in both years AND hours. JOURNEY PLUMBER/GAS FITTER. Four requirements, all of which must be met: have held an APPRENTICE plumber/gas fitter license for AT LEAST FOUR YEARS; have completed 7,500 HOURS of training under the control and direction of a licensed master plumber/gas fitter; have completed 32 HOURS of training in BACKFLOW PREVENTION DEVICE TESTING; and pass a comprehensive written examination. That backflow requirement is distinctive, most states treat backflow certification as a separate optional endorsement, and Maryland builds it into the journey license. MASTER PLUMBER/GAS FITTER. Have held a JOURNEY license for at least TWO YEARS, and completed a further 3,750 HOURS of training under the direction and control of a licensed master plumber. EXAMINATION. Administered by PSI Examination Services for the Maryland State Board of Plumbing; the board publishes a PSI candidate information bulletin. The examination must be passed BEFORE applying for the master license. FEES: Master Plumber/Gas Fitter $87.50; Journeyman Plumber/Gas Fitter $43.50. |
