Everyone quotes the shortage. Here is the count Louisiana actually has, by skill level and per resident, updated every night.
As of October 6, 2026, Louisiana carries 5,025 licensed HVAC technicians on its state register.
Louisiana does not issue a separate apprentice license for this trade, so no pipeline ratio is published here. The tier counts below are what the register itself records.
Every HVAC technician license on the Louisiana register, normalized to one ladder.
| Tier | Licensed | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Journeyman | 2,242 | 45% |
| Contractor / business | 2,783 | 55% |

Not comparable per resident: this register blends individual and contractor licenses, so the raw total is not one kind of thing. A per-resident rate and a state ranking are withheld here; compare by credential tier below instead.
