| Requirements | Apprentice: registration, no exam, works under supervision of a journeyman or master. Journeyman: 2 years apprenticeship or a board-approved training program (or verifiable 2 years experience via Board appearance), then pass the exam. Master: minimum 1 year active certification as a journeyman, then pass the master exam. Applicants have 90 days after passing to pay fees and certify. |
| Reciprocity | Out-of-state applicants accepted if originally licensed by exam with a 70%+ score, license active and in good standing, verified by the issuing state agency. |
| Renewal | Certifications renew annually (expire December 31). Continuing education required for all journeyman and master certificate holders beginning January 1, 2025 (holders age 65+ may qualify for an age exemption). |
