How many licensed trades New York holds on the registers ATI collects, which trades they work in, and where they are. Straight from the state board, updated every night.
New York carries 9,992 skilled-trades licenses on its state register as of October 6, 2026, 51.1 per 100,000 residents.
New York licenses some trades locally. Cities and counties, not the state, issue several of these licenses, and ATI counts a local license only where it collects that local register. For those trades the figures below are a floor, not the state total.
Counts are license records, not people: a holder with more than one license appears once per license, and a contractor license is a business, not a worker.
A free report on your market: what the trade pays, how that compares with nearby counties, and where your credential sits against the local licensed workforce. No account needed.
The twelve places with the most licensed trades in New York. Location is the address on the register, usually the business or mailing address, so counts cluster on registration addresses rather than job sites. Only 19% of New York records carry an address that places them in the state; the table covers those.
